
Five individuals were identified after the National Republican Guard (GNR) seized approximately 11 kilograms of limpets, which were illegally harvested during the closed season, at Praia da Vitória, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, on Terceira Island.
The GNR indicated that, following various inspection activities targeting fishing activities, “five individuals, aged between 57 and 70 years, were detected collecting and selling limpets in several areas of the mentioned municipality.”
“The operations resulted in the seizure of 11.82 kilograms of limpets, as well as the identification of the five suspects and the issuance of five infraction notices, which will be forwarded to the Regional Inspection of Fisheries and Maritime Uses,” the statement read.
The GNR also reported that the mollusks were returned to the sea as they were “alive and in good condition.”
