A 30-year-old man was apprehended last Tuesday by the National Republican Guard (GNR) for disobedience after being found driving a seized vehicle. Additionally, 275.70 kilograms of Japanese clams were seized in Alcochete.
In a statement, the GNR clarified that the interception occurred during a traffic inspection operation, where they stopped “two vehicles transporting shellfish without the requisite registration document for live bivalve mollusks.”
As such, it was not possible to ascertain “their origin or verify compliance with current legal norms, especially concerning traceability, which poses a potential public health risk.”
During the operation, two men, aged 30 and 36, were identified, and “two fines were issued for transporting shellfish without the legally required documentation. Additionally, the 30-year-old suspect was arrested for disobedience, as he was found driving a seized vehicle.”
The GNR reported that “the shellfish, following hygienic and sanitary inspection, will be destroyed.”
The detainee has been named a suspect, and the facts have been forwarded to the Montijo Judicial Court.
