The summer season is synonymous not only with heat but also with vacations and travel. In light of this, the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) has shared some recommendations on social media to help citizens enjoy their journeys with greater peace of mind.
What should you do before your trip?
- Lock and check all doors and windows before leaving;
- Ask a neighbor or family member to keep an eye out and collect your mail;
- Avoid sharing on social media that you are away from home;
And during the journey?
- Keep your documents and valuables close;
- Be wary of suspicious approaches in crowded areas;
- Store valuables securely and avoid displaying them in public;
If traveling with children and the elderly…
- Teach children to memorize an emergency contact;
- In crowded places, establish a meeting point in case you get separated;
- Request the ‘Estou Aqui!’ bracelet at estouaqui.mai.gov.pt;
The PSP emphasizes that “peace of mind begins with prevention” to ensure a secure vacation, as they stress “prevention is the best destination.”
Learn how to keep children (and adults) ‘under watch’
Driven by the goal of ensuring the safety of both children and adults, the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) launched the ‘Estou aqui!’ program for children and ‘Estou Aqui’ for adults a few years back.
This program helps ensure that children and adults remain safe and enables their quick location if they go missing. The bracelets are complimentary and secure, featuring an anonymous alphanumeric identification code, available for children aged between 2 and 15 years, and valid throughout the national territory.

With the aim of ensuring the safety of children, the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) introduced the ‘Estou aqui Crianças!’ program several years ago. This initiative helps keep children safe and enables their quick recovery if they go missing.

For adults, the request is also free and intended for individuals who, due to age or medical conditions, may become disoriented or momentarily unconscious in public. As they age, individuals could experience difficulties with memory, attention, and concentration.
Requests can be made by the user through the Self Request option or by a third party via the Institution/Caregiver Request option. Institutions wishing to join the program can register multiple users with a single application by selecting the Institution/Caregiver Request option and specifying it as an institution request.
