Góis exempts consumers from paying for water used in fighting the flames

“This initiative translates into direct support for affected populations, alleviating extraordinary burdens resulting from emergency situations, which will be ensured by the municipality of Góis,” the local government emphasized in a statement today.

Residents who receive bills for water consumption associated with fire fighting should send the document (or a copy) to the email address co*****@*****is.pt or deliver it in person at the Góis City Hall.

After validation, the municipality checks if the location and billing period correspond to the days of the occurrence and the area actually affected.

If the situation does not qualify, the City Hall returns the document to the consumer, informing that the bill should be paid within the established deadline.

The fire that broke out in Lousã on August 14th spread the next day to the Góis municipality, which activated the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan.

The blaze consumed 3,500 hectares in the Serra da Lousã, within both municipalities, without affecting settlements.
