Good weather until… the elections? Here are the forecasts for the coming days.

The weather forecast for the coming days suggests stability across mainland Portugal and Madeira until the municipal elections scheduled for Sunday, October 12. The Azores will be the exception, with most islands expected to experience rain and wind.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts mostly clear skies in the continental territory in the coming days, with temperatures surpassing 25°C in most districts, reaching up to 30°C in some areas.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira is also expected to enjoy stable weather and mild temperatures. Days will be pleasant and sunny, with only occasional thunderstorms in mainland Portugal.

The scenario is quite different in the Azores, prompting the IPMA to issue a weather alert. Rain is anticipated to be persistent and intense, with some wind, especially in the western and central groups of the archipelago. Maximum temperatures in the region are not expected to exceed 25°C.

Morning fog dissipating throughout the day

Specifically for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, the IPMA forecasts “periods of very cloudy skies, clearing in the southern region from the afternoon. Strong winds are expected in highlands and some western coastal areas, along with a slight decrease in maximum temperature.

Specialists also mention the “possibility of light rain or drizzle in the northern and central coastal regions until late morning and in the extreme north during the afternoon.”

Winds will vary from light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the northern quadrant, temporarily from the west/southwest on the southern coast of Algarve in the afternoon, blowing moderate to strong (25 to 45 km/h) on the western coast south of Cabo Carvoeiro and in highlands, particularly from the afternoon, occasionally with gusts up to 60 km/h.

Meteorologists also foresee the “possibility of fog or morning mist in some areas, especially in the northern and central regions.

For Greater Lisbon, periods of very cloudy skies are expected, with a chance of light rain or drizzle near Cabo Raso until late morning. Winds are anticipated to be light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the north/northwest, blowing moderate to strong (25 to 45 km/h) in the afternoon, with occasional gusts up to 60 km/h near Cabo Raso, along with a slight decrease in maximum temperature.

In Greater Porto, the sky will generally be very cloudy, becoming mostly clear in the afternoon. There is a chance of light rain or drizzle until late morning. Light winds are expected, blowing light to moderate (up to 30 km/h) from the northwest in the afternoon, with mist or fog until mid-morning and towards the end of the day, and finally, a slight decrease in maximum temperature.
