Goodbye, sun! Depression Nuria brings rain, wind, and thunderstorms until Saturday.

The depression Nuria is set to impact the Iberian Peninsula from this Thursday to Saturday, bringing rain, wind, and thunderstorms, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

The IPMA stated on Tuesday that “this depression will position itself to the west of the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the day on the 3rd, gradually moving north and filling up until the 5th.” They further noted that the depression is “associated with a cold frontal surface and various instability lines that will affect the weather in mainland Portugal.”

Rain or showers, occasionally heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, are expected until Saturday, April 5, particularly on Friday.

“During this period, the wind will be from the southern quadrant, light to moderate, intensifying to moderate to strong along the coast and in highlands, with gusts up to 70 km/h, from the end of the day on the 3rd,” the statement read.

Snow may also fall on the highest points of Serra da Estrela, although significant accumulation is not expected.

IPMA warned that “this meteorological situation has an associated degree of uncertainty, so it is advisable to follow the forecasts in the coming days.”
