In social media, Henrique Gouveia e Melo wrote a congratulatory note on the independence of São Tomé and Príncipe, celebrated today, and extended “a special greeting to President Carlos Vila Nova,” whom he mentioned knowing from his tenure as Chief of the Naval Staff (CEMA).
“Throughout my career, I have served in various naval missions in Africa and was one of the driving forces behind the strong cooperation between the Portuguese Navy and São Tomé and Príncipe, through naval presence and support in maritime development and military training,” wrote Gouveia e Melo.
The presidential candidate also expressed hope that “the next 50 years will be filled with prosperity, peace, and progress.”
