The former Chief of the Naval Staff visited the Calhariz de Benfica University Residence and a nearby affordable housing building currently under construction. He was accompanied by the president of the Benfica Parish Council, Ricardo Marques, from the PS, whom he commended for the initiative and problem-solving capability.

“This residence and everything around it, the project, the way it was built, is a sign of hope in addressing the serious housing problems we all face, that the population faces: modular construction, with Portuguese engineering, and the ability to build quickly at controlled prices,” said Henrique Gouveia e Melo at the end of the visits, speaking to the media.

Asked about the PSD/CDS-PP Government’s proposals submitted to the Assembly of the Republic, which include tax measures to promote housing supply, the presidential candidate replied, “I think it’s very good, I think the Government is on the right track.”

“Because it is doing what needs to be done to promote not only construction but also to provide incentives for property owners to place their housing on the rental market. It’s multifactorial, all these things have to be done at the same time, and it seems very good to me that these things are being done because it’s a problem we all have to solve,” he added.
