Government advances with the simplification of information reporting to Social Security

During a press conference following the meeting, the official expressed regret over the “repeated ordeal of providing information about employee compensation and status, which must still be done regularly.”

For Leitão Amaro, the repetition of information solely “because there is a law requiring it” is the “enemy of simplification” and a “friend of bureaucracy.”

The legislation approved today introduces “simplification and digitalization measures,” with a primary one being that companies and employers “will only need to communicate updates, compensation changes, and relevant facts concerning their employees instead of repeating information that Social Security already possesses.”

Leitão Amaro also stated that “communication platforms between Social Security and contributors” will be developed in an “omnichannel logic,” thereby reducing interactions and “automating validations” with the aim of decreasing contextual costs and bureaucracy.

The official also noted that the government has approved an expenditure to implement two-factor authentication on the tax portal, a project that commenced in mid-July.

Leitão Amaro emphasized that, despite being one of the most significant for the Portuguese, this portal “does not have the level of security of two-factor authentication” currently available in other services, like banking.
