Government allocates 91 million euros for “regulated and humanistic immigration”

According to the report accompanying the State Budget proposal for the coming year (OE2026), the government outlines three action points for its “regulated and humanistic immigration” program: immigration regulation, talent attraction, and humanistic reception and integration.

For immigration regulation, the government has allocated a budget of 74 million euros to “ensure that immigrants residing in the national territory adhere to the principles of legality, security, and human dignity.”

In the area of talent attraction, a budget of one million euros is allocated to “ensure that migration flows align with the needs of the Portuguese economy.”

Within the “regulated and humanistic immigration” program and the 91 million euro total budget, the government plans to allocate 16 million euros for “humanistic reception and integration.” The aim here is to “promote public policies for the reception and integration of migrants through coordinated action with public entities and civil society,” the report states.

The document also notes that next year’s proposal intends to have a “migration policy based on strict adherence to national and European legislation, responsible and regulated management of migration flows, and the dignity of the human person.”

Regarding the Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum (AIMA), the State Budget proposal states that this organization “will continue to be restructured.”

“Reception will be conducted with care, in coordination with municipalities, companies, and civil society institutions, following a proximity model that favors cohesion and lasting integration,” the report submitted today to the Assembly of the Republic reads.
