
Speaking at a press conference following the weekly Council of Ministers meeting, the official announced that the National Noise Strategy 2025-2030 aims to protect the environment while acknowledging human needs, without “radicalism, environmental fundamentalism, or environmental denialism.”
“There is a problem. Excessive noise harms our collective life. It affects health and quality of life. It should be contained within acceptable parameters with a public strategy that is balanced, avoiding eco-fundamentalism and eco-denialism,” emphasized Leitão Amaro.
The National Ambient Noise Strategy 2025-2030 was open for public consultation until June 9.
While praised by environmentalists and experts, there are concerns that it has come too late, includes outdated data, and shows “significant inconsistencies” compared to other reports.
