
In a press conference, the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, articulated that the approved document outlines a set of simplification and digitalization rules designed to “combat cases of actual fraud,” evolving from a pre-existing system deemed ineffective.
António Leitão Amaro noted that governmental inspection services uncovered fraudulent instances in the allocation of this prenatal allowance, with an individual managing to “secure the same payment in more than three dozen places.” He added, “More than 30 times for a situation that should only result in one payment.”
Such scenarios emerged “from exploiting a system that was ineffective,” further commented the Minister of the Presidency, emphasizing that this ensures “social support is justly distributed to those in need.”
