The government aims to “minimize the disparities between doctors with a contract with the National Health Service (SNS) who build their careers within it, and those who work as service providers,” stated Ana Paula Martins at a press conference presenting the conclusions of Wednesday’s Council of Ministers.
A July report from the Public Finance Council on the SNS indicated that the hiring of medical services, to address the shortage of specialists in local health units, grew by 3.6% in total contracted hours in 2024, resulting in an expenditure of nearly 230 million euros, an increase of 11.7% compared to 2023.
