“At the same time, the XXV Government will drive wage growth, following the previous trajectory of raising the minimum wage to 1,100 euros by the end of the legislature — this year (2026), with an increase of 50 euros per month, reaching 920 euros — and enhancing Public Administration careers,” the document states.
The national minimum wage is defined by a government ordinance, following consultation with social partners.
In the most recent social dialogue meeting on September 23, the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security stated that the Government “neither opens nor closes the door” to revising the trajectory of the national minimum wage, as planned in the tripartite agreement for salary appreciation and economic growth for 2025-2028.
The agreement, signed last October between the Government, the four business confederations, and the General Union of Workers (UGT), revised upwards the trajectory of the national minimum wage, anticipating annual increases of 50 euros to reach 1,020 euros by 2028.
Thus, the document indicates that the national minimum wage will increase from the current 870 euros to 920 euros in 2026, as assumed today by the Government.
Following the legislative elections on May 18, in the Government’s program, the executive set a new goal to cover the entire legislature, aiming for the minimum guaranteed remuneration to reach 1,100 euros gross per month by 2029.
The OE2026 proposal was submitted to the Assembly of the Republic today, a day before the deadline.
