“The acquisition ensures permanent and stable conditions for the operation of the PSP, which has occupied the building for several years, contributing to the optimization of the state’s property management and the improvement of infrastructure related to internal security,” stated the communiqué from Thursday’s Council of Ministers.
With the resolution approved on Thursday, this security force will now be able to purchase the property in the Campanhã parish from ESTAMO – Participações Imobiliárias, S.A., the exclusively public-owned company tasked with the management, sale, leasing, and promotion of the state’s non-strategic real estate assets.
In December 2023, the then Minister of Internal Administration, José Luís Carneiro (PS), presented a redevelopment project for this complex, stemming from an investment of 20 million euros.
The project, which includes both the rehabilitation of some buildings and the demolition and subsequent construction of new ones, will allow “conditions of dignity for the police” to be provided, he explained at the time.
The construction of Quinta da Bela Vista dates back to 1912 and covers approximately 32 thousand hectares.
Currently, the complex houses several services of the PSP Metropolitan Command in Porto, as well as the Immediate Prevention and Reaction teams and the force from the Special Police Unit deployed in Porto.
