The Ministry of National Defense confirmed on Sunday that the United States requested authorization for 12 refueling aircraft to use the Lajes Base in the Azores, which was granted.
“This is a routine procedure, and the aircraft currently in the Azores are aerial refueling planes. They are not offensive aircraft, but merely refueling aircraft,” stated a note from the office led by Nuno Melo.
