The Ministry of Health has responded to reports regarding a pregnant woman from Barreiro who lost her baby at 31 weeks after being transferred from Barreiro to Cascais due to a lack of options in the Margem Sul area.
The ministry, led by Ana Paula Martins, refutes claims that the obstetric emergency services in the Setúbal Peninsula were closed, as reported, and asserts that “at all times, access to healthcare was ensured, concluding that the response provided to the patient, both by the SNS Grávida Line and by INEM, was consistent with the existing referral and access protocols.”

A 38-year-old woman was taken to Cascais Hospital, more than an hour away from her home, over two hours after her initial request for help. The baby did not survive.
