Government discusses extraordinary linking of teachers with unions

A meeting bringing together 12 union organizations is scheduled for 14:30 at the MECI Center in Caparide, Cascais.

The sole agenda point is a government proposal to amend the decrees passed in 2024, which established exceptional measures under the plan “+ Aulas + Sucesso” and the extraordinary recruitment contest, aimed at addressing the teacher shortage.

Earlier in July, MECI had already indicated that the “+ Aulas + Sucesso 2.0” plan, featuring additional measures, would soon be presented.

Currently, the known measures include a 35% reduction in statutory mobility, allowing hundreds of teachers to return to schools, and the advancement of travel support expansion.

Announced Thursday by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro during the State of the Nation debate, the measure brings forward the implementation of a compensation regime extended to all displaced teachers, regardless of whether they are placed at a school considered in need due to a lack of teachers, unlike the regime created by the government at the start of that school year.

The regime, initiated by BE, was approved in the Assembly of the Republic in March with votes against from PSD and CDS-PP.

However, the expansion of the support, ranging from 150 to 450 euros monthly depending on the distance, would only come into effect with the 2026 State Budget, starting in January.
