Luís Montenegro spoke at the opening of the general debate on the 2026 State Budget proposal (OE2026), which takes place today and Tuesday at the Assembly of the Republic.
“Our goal is clear: there is no dignity without rules and no welcoming without responsibility; this Government is resolving the immigration chaos in which they left the country,” he said.
Montenegro posed a question to the deputies, which he answered himself: “And what about the illegals, what will happen? Illegal immigrants must return to their country of origin,” he stated, adding that the executive will continue to ensure the flow of immigrants “adequate to the real needs of the country.”
The Prime Minister included the topic of immigration in his initial intervention in the debate, alongside others such as health, housing, and security.
