“It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the death of Romão Lavadinho, former President of the Association of Lisbon Tenants (AIL). His dedication to defending tenants, having led the AIL for over 20 years, is unquestionable and indispensable,” stated a note sent to Lusa by the ministry headed by Miguel Pinto Luz.
The death of Romão Lavadinho was announced today by the AIL in a statement recalling the former leader as “a firm, competent, and supportive voice in the protection of tenant families.”
Romão Lavadinho, whose dedication and sense of mission, according to AIL, “marked the defense of tenant rights in Portugal indelibly,” served as president of the association from 2002 to 2023.
The AIL noted that for more than two decades, Romão Lavadinho was a prominent figure during pivotal moments in associative and political life, particularly in the 2004/2005 and 2012/2013 struggles, “tirelessly advocating for tenant rights and the right to housing for all.”
