Government launches incentive for innovation in low-density territories

“The tender for the innovation production incentive system for low-density territories was published today,” announced the Ministry of Economy and Territorial Cohesion in a statement.

This tender, amounting to 117 million euros, offers a financing rate for micro and small enterprises located in low-density territories of up to 50%, and up to 40% for medium-sized enterprises, through non-reimbursable grants.

According to the ministry led by Castro Almeida, outside low-density regions, the maximum repayable support is 30%.

Of the total 117 million euros allocation, 70 million euros are managed by Compete 2030, and the remaining by the North, Center, Alentejo, and Algarve programs.

Eligible projects should involve the creation of a new facility, an increase in the production capacity of an existing facility, production diversification, or a process change.

The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, quoted in the same note, stated that this differentiation for companies in low-density territories promotes cohesion and makes the funds more attractive, allowing “more people to settle in the interior.”

Micro, small, and medium enterprises in the low-density territories of the North, Center, Alentejo, and Algarve may apply for this incentive.

The first phase of application analysis and decision-making ends on November 28 of this year, with the second phase concluding at the end of March 2026.
