Government leaves the AR “legitimized”. “It is up to them to execute their program”

In brief remarks to journalists in parliament following the debate on the government’s program and the rejection of a motion presented by the PCP, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro stated that the executive is “legitimized and invested by parliament” and must now execute its program.

“That is what we will do, focus on solving the problems affecting people’s lives, promoting each person’s quality of life, and projecting the growth of our economy to create more wealth and achieve more social justice,” he added.

To this end, he said, the government relies on “the support given in the elections” and also “on the collaboration of the Assembly of the Republic and of all the people’s representatives.”

“This was also what resulted from the discussion in the government’s program,” he concluded.

Today, parliament rejected the PCP’s motion against the Program of the XXV Constitutional Government, with opposing votes from the PSD, Chega, PS, IL, CDS-PP, JPP, abstention from PAN, and supporting votes from PCP, Livre, and BE.

The minority PSD/CDS government, led by social democrat Luís Montenegro, now fully assumes its functions following the conclusion of the government’s program assessment in the Assembly of the Republic.
