“The Government has met the demands set by the Socialist Party, particularly concerning labor issues, the National Health Service, public social security, and the treatment of fiscal matters outside the budget,” stated José Luís Carneiro to journalists in an initial reaction to the State Budget proposal for 2026 (OE2026) delivered today in parliament by the Government.
The PS leader confirmed that the prospects for enabling the document are more favorable, but noted that “it is not” the PS’s budget.
“Naturally, we would have a budget different from that of the Government,” he emphasized.
He assured his respect and commitment to the promise made to the Portuguese people to “contribute to political stability” and announced plans to consult party officials next week regarding their voting intentions.
Carneiro reiterated to journalists that the potential for passing the document is more open, albeit observing that this “is not” the PS’s budget.
“Naturally, we would have a budget different from that of the Government,” he emphasized once more.
