The government has set a maximum of 2,400 vacancies for entry into general medical training in 2024, the same number as last year, according to an order published today in the Diário da República.
“The medical internship corresponds to a process of medical training, both theoretical and practical, comprising two aspects: general training, which aims to qualify the doctor for the autonomous practice of medicine, and specialized training, which aims to qualify the doctor for the practice of medicine or technically differentiated practice in a particular area of specialization, with the award of the corresponding degree of specialist,” reads the order.
Admission to the medical internship is made through a single competitive procedure, opened by the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS), in the third quarter of each calendar year and the map of vacancies for entry into general training is fixed annually by order of the members of the Government responsible for the areas of Finance, Public Administration and Health, it clarifies.
