The government has presented a new proposal concerning paid services, also known as compensations, for public and private entities outside regular working hours to the PSP unions and GNR associations last week.
The proposal outlines two tables: a general table (Table A) and another aimed at non-professional sports competitions (Table B), with the latter featuring lower rates but a 10% increase from current payments.
According to the proposal, police officers (PSP) and national guards (GNR) would earn 51.60 euros for a four-hour period on weekdays from 08:00 to 20:00, with the rate increasing to 74.27 euros on holidays, weekends, and nighttime.
These amounts rise to 54.34 euros for GNR sergeants and PSP chiefs and to 60.51 euros for officers.
For sports-related compensations, a PSP officer or GNR corporal would receive 34.87 euros, an officer 49.36 euros, and a sergeant or chief 39.48 euros for four hours.
The government argues that the update to paid services is necessary “to meet current public security demands” and “adapt to the operational and remunerative context of security forces” after nearly a decade under the current table.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also notes in the proposal that “the revision aims to enhance efficient management of the security forces’ human resources.”
“In this context, it is clarified that decisions regarding compensated services and allocation of respective personnel are based on a thorough assessment of policing adequacy and necessity, ensuring the proportionality of security forces’ intervention,” the proposal states.
PSP unions and GNR associations feel the revision of paid services is not a current priority, emphasizing more urgent issues needing immediate action.
They also consider the proposal inadequate, with some suggesting that the current Minister’s revision is less favorable than the one offered by the previous socialist government.
