The municipality announced that its president, Domingos Bragança (PS), met with Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz in Lisbon on Monday to present projects developed by the municipality, including the metrobus link between Guimarães, Braga, and the future high-speed rail station.
Miguel Pinto Luz confirmed the government’s decision to finance the entire implementation process, including execution studies, land, construction, and rolling stock. He also expressed willingness to accept an extended channel space in special projects, ensuring the infrastructure can support new mobility models in the future, as explained by the municipality.
According to the municipality and the minister, “the investment is only feasible within an intermunicipal framework connecting to the future high-speed rail station,” and it will be financed with state funds, with the base cost estimated at 200 million euros, as stated in the announcement.
The Guimarães City Council reveals that “the submitted projects propose a dedicated, segregated link between Guimarães, Braga, and the High-Speed Station, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient public passenger transport.”
In Guimarães, 12 stations are planned (Estádio, Cepsa, Caneiros, Fermentões I, Fermentões II, Ponte I, Ponte II, Taipas Av. República, Taipas Av. 25 de Abril, São Martinho de Sande, and Balazar), complemented by four stations on the branch line to AvePark (Charneca, Av. Combatentes, AvePark, Barco Zona Industrial). These plans ensure strategic territorial coverage and integration with the existing network in Braga, the municipality anticipates.
