
The tobacco consumption tax is projected to generate 1.676 billion euros next year, an increase of 72 million euros (4.4%) compared to 2025, justified by the government as a result of the “expected growth in private consumption.”
The tax on alcohol, alcoholic beverages, and beverages with added sugar or sweeteners (IABA) is anticipated to yield 317 million euros, an increase of eight million euros (2.5%), attributed by the executive to the “trend observed in 2025.”
The Minister of State and Finance presented the 2026 State Budget proposal to the President of the Assembly of the Republic today. This marks the second budget crafted by the PSD/CDS governments led by Luís Montenegro.
