The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, announced a legislative proposal to establish a “foreigners and borders unit within the PSP,” aiming to restore a “border police” for the country.
“There is clearly a reinforcement of the requirements, and therefore, also some limitations for obtaining residence permits in Portugal, always guided by constitutional respect, always attentive to the transformation after seven years of uncontrolled immigration and policies and laws that were successively facilitated,” explained Leitão Amaro at the press conference following this Monday’s Council of Ministers.
