Government wants to promote physical activity in the workplace. What’s coming?

The government is set to unveil initiatives included in the Workplace Physical Activity measure, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), in a ceremony marking the start of the European Week of Sport today.

In a statement, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports notes that Portugal has been participating in this week for 10 years and states that the launch of the Workplace Physical Activity measure is “part of the government’s commitment to promoting health and well-being in the workplace.”

It also mentions that the European Week of Sport, coordinated by the Portuguese Sports and Youth Institute (IPDJ), underscores the government’s “firm commitment” to consolidating public policies that promote physical activity as a universal right, fundamental for the population’s well-being.

This edition’s opening ceremony will take place in Campo Maior, at 2:30 PM, at the facilities of Grupo Nabeiro.

In the announcement, the government recalls its development of “a comprehensive set of policies and programs” to foster sports practice and access to physical activity across all ages and social groups. This includes increased investments in sports infrastructures, educational programs that promote sports literacy in schools, encouraging physical activity from childhood, initiatives aimed at social inclusion through sports, and integrating physical activity as a transversal component in public health policies, recognizing its role in preventing chronic diseases and improving quality of life.
