A 42-year-old man was arrested by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) on December 11 in the Vila Franca de Xira parish on suspicion of domestic violence – caught in the act.
A statement sent to newsrooms on Friday, December 12, explained that “the police, after being informed of an incident of assaults between a couple in a public area, immediately went to the site.” Upon arrival, they visualized a couple, and the “suspect showed nervousness and agitation upon realizing the police approach.”
The victim, visibly shaken and expressing fear, conveyed to the officers that moments earlier “she had been pursued and assaulted by the suspect,” further describing that he “had grabbed her by the neck and pushed her against some railings while uttering threats and various insults.”
The victim’s account, according to the PSP in the same note, “was corroborated by several witnesses who had observed the entire situation.”
“In light of the observed facts, the victim’s statements, the collected testimonies, and the need to ensure the victim’s safety, the suspect was arrested,” who was taken to the detention rooms of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command to be presented to the Judicial Authority.
The coercive measures applied are currently unknown.
