Five men, aged between 19 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of a violent robbery at a residence in Mafra, the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) announced this Tuesday in a statement.
Investigators indicated that the suspects face serious charges, including aggravated robbery involving the use of firearms, physical assault, extortion, threats, and card abuse.
The robbery in question, according to the PJ, took place last January. The suspects acted in an organized manner, wielding firearms, and using balaclavas and hoods to conceal their identities. They broke into the home of a couple, seizing valuables and several thousands of euros in cash.
Subsequently, by exploiting a banking app installed on one of the stolen mobile phones, they made unauthorized cash withdrawals.
In the days following the robbery, the victims were subjected to threats and extortion attempts aimed at securing additional financial gains, as further explained by the PJ.
