Six individuals, comprising five men and one woman aged between 30 and 36, have been arrested by the Public Security Police (PSP) on suspicion of drug trafficking in Lisbon. Authorities revealed that the suspects had developed an application and utilized fake couriers to distribute narcotics.
A statement issued on Friday by the PSP detailed the execution of a police operation in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area last Tuesday, following an intensive “months-long” investigation.
The investigation found that “the Criminal Investigation Division monitored the activities of a group of IT specialists engaged in drug trafficking via software applications.”
The suspects had “advanced technical skills” and developed applications that facilitated the sale of various types of drugs, scheduled delivery locations, and digital payment methods, aiming clearly to evade police operations.
Subsequently, drug distribution was conducted by “a network of individuals masquerading as delivery platform couriers” established in Lisbon.
On Thursday, the Criminal Investigation Division executed seven residential search warrants, seizing thousands of doses of narcotics, including 8,944 doses of hashish, 5,490 doses of cocaine, 2,500 doses of cannabis, 4,460 doses of MDMA, 307 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, and 1.5 kilograms of chemical mixing products. Additionally, 15,400 euros in cash were confiscated.
Following a preliminary judicial hearing, four suspects were remanded in preventive detention, while the remaining two were ordered to report periodically.
