
The Portuguese government announced today that constitutional normality in Guinea-Bissau has been disrupted and called on those involved in these events to refrain from acts of violence, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The military seized power in Bissau today, according to a statement from the Guinea-Bissau Armed Forces accessed by Lusa agency.
In response to the “events that disrupted the course of constitutional normality in Guinea-Bissau,” the Portuguese government urged all involved to refrain from any institutional or civic violence.
It further called for the “resumption of the regular functioning of institutions, so that the process of determining and proclaiming election results can be completed.”
The government also assured that it is in constant contact with the Portuguese Embassy in Bissau “to ensure the situation of Portuguese citizens and also of the general population.”
