The Matosinhos em Jazz festival, an initiative by the Matosinhos City Council, takes place throughout the month of July with free admission and performances beginning at 6:00 PM.
Although the concerts start today, this edition kicked off on Tuesday with the opening of an exhibition at Parque Basílio Teles, showcasing iconic jazz album covers reinterpreted by five Portuguese artists: Barbara R., Nuno Trigueiros, Bina Tangerina, Mariana PTKS, and Tiago Galo.
The festival continues on Saturday with a performance by Brazilian pianist Amaro Freitas.
On July 12, Matosinhos em Jazz will host corto.alto, a project by British multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall. On July 13, British singer Cherise will perform, followed by Australian artist Allysha Joy on July 19, and Luso-Croatian musician Lana Gasparøtti on July 20.
The festival lineup also includes two additional concerts to be held at Praça Guilhermina Suggia.
On July 24, the Orquestra Sinfonia do Porto Casa da Música will present the show “Sons do Brasil,” featuring guest trumpeter Gileno Santana.
The following day, the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos will perform alongside fado singer Ricardo Ribeiro and pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva.
These two events will take place at 10:00 PM and also offer free admission.
