Gypsy Jazz Festival in Almada with Mozes Rosenberg and Favino Lorier

The Cine Incrível will host a series of concerts, commencing with a performance by the Mozes Rosenberg Trio. The group, hailing from the Netherlands, is set to take the stage this Friday at 9:30 PM. Previously, the trio has participated in renowned festivals such as the Jazz Marathon in Hong Kong and the Sicilia Jazz in Italy.

The following evening, at the same time, French violinist and guitarist Favino Lorier will perform. Lorier is part of the Manouche gypsy community from Alsace-Lorraine, which is the same ethnic group as the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt (1910-1953), a pivotal figure in the ‘swing’ style of jazz deeply influenced by gypsy musical traditions.

Favino Lorier is described by the association Alma Danada as “representative of the new generation of musicians inspired by Django Reinhardt,” noting that the musician has “immersed himself in the authentic Sinti tradition, rarely heard today.”

His discography includes albums like ‘Nuages’ (2011), ‘Favino’ (2013), ‘Rhythm Future Quartet’ (2014), ‘Travels’ (2016), and ‘Isotope’ (2019).

The Pompadelic Swing Orchestra, prominently featuring the manouche guitar, is scheduled to perform on Sunday at 5:00 PM. Formed in 2023, the orchestra made its debut at the Festival Magos da Guitarra in Lamego and released its first single, ‘Fleche d’Or,’ last year. They will launch their first Extended Play (EP) at the Almada festival.

Additionally, on Sunday at 3:30 PM, a dance class organized by the Escola Blues & Swing Lisboa, known for their specialization in “vintage dances,” will be held in the same venue.

The Almada Manouche Festival had its initial edition in 2021, followed by the first official edition in May 2022. Last year, the event attracted approximately 600 spectators, according to the organizers.
