Had fled after robbery in Leiria in April. Was caught in Torres Vedras

A 42-year-old man was arrested on Thursday by the Public Security Police (PSP) on suspicion of involvement in a robbery at a construction site in April. Another suspect had already been arrested at the time and is currently in preventive detention.

In a statement, the PSP’s Leiria District Command explained that the robbery occurred on April 11, 2025, at around 2:23 p.m., when the two men entered a construction site in Leiria and approached two workers, “demanding money to prevent the theft of a plasterboard cutting machine used by them.”

One of the victims went to a nearby ATM with one of the men. “As the suspect remained hidden near the ATM, the victim took the opportunity to call the site manager,” the statement reads.

The other suspect stayed at the site with the second victim, from whom he stole 60 euros “under the threat of assault with a knife.”

One of the suspects was arrested the same day in downtown Leiria, but the second suspect fled after the crime.

The PSP eventually located him last Thursday while he was working at a construction site in the Torres Vedras area. The man was arrested outside of flagrant delicto and was presented to the Criminal Investigation Judge yesterday. He was placed in preventive detention and taken to the Leiria Prison.
