Halloween is tomorrow. 5 ‘scary’ books for the little ones.

The Halloween celebration takes place tomorrow, Friday, October 31. For those with children and without plans for the most frightening night of the year, the evening can be enlivened with some Halloween-themed books suitable for young readers.

Dress up appropriately. Create a tent in your living room using sheets, dim the lights, and bring flashlights. Gather with your little witches and devils to enjoy these five stories:

Halloween – O Halloween (+7)

This book by Ana Maria Magalhães and Isabel Alçada, with illustrations by Pedro Rocha and Mello, published by Editorial Caminho, is part of the ‘Aconteceu na Escola’ collection, a hit among young readers. The adventure unfolds on Halloween night, marking the first time the class sleeps at school. As flashlights light up the corridors and chilling stories circulate in whispers, something unexpected happens—a prank so cleverly executed that it leaves everyone wondering if real ghosts were involved.

O Halloween dos Lápis (+4)

Released by Nuvem de Letras, this book by Drew Daywalt introduces yet another adventure of the famously magical pencils, this time on Halloween. The pencils set out to collect treats from door to door but face confusion about what to do. It’s up to the purple pencil to teach them the magic words needed to ring their neighbors’ doorbells (Hint: It’s not “Boo!”)

Hansel and Gretel (+6)

This tale, released in Portugal by Bertrand, offers a spine-chilling experience even for the bravest. It narrates the story of two children abandoned in a dense, dark forest full of life-threatening dangers, reimagined by literary legends Stephen King and Maurice Sendak.

Contos de Arrepiar (+9)

In this book, released by Nuvem de Letras, young readers keen on suspense can explore “10 must-read classics.”

A Casa Misteriosa do Meu Avô (+3)

Meritxell Marti and Xavier Salomo, through Jacarandá Editora, present a fantastic story about a grandfather’s house that defies expectations. “At first glance, it resembles a sailor’s tavern, but upon closer inspection, surprising discoveries and clues await, leading readers to extraordinary places.” It’s crucial to keep your eyes wide open!
