“Has a jealousy fit” and throws girlfriend’s phone. Was identified

A 34-year-old man was identified by the Public Security Police (PSP) last Friday, August 8, in Lisbon, after being “reported in a domestic violence case”.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the PSP reported that during preventive patrolling aimed at crime prevention and combat in Santo António parish, they “identified a man reported in a domestic violence case.”

“The officers noticed a vehicle stopping suddenly, with an agitated individual exiting and violently throwing something to the ground, while another person restrained him to calm down,” the statement reads.

The PSP explained that inside the vehicle “was a woman in panic, crying uncontrollably.”

After speaking with those involved, the authorities determined that it “was a case of domestic violence” and that the “reported individual, in a sudden fit of jealousy, forcibly took his 24-year-old girlfriend’s phone and threw it aggressively to the ground, damaging it.”

“Although the victim did not wish to file a criminal complaint, since it is a public crime, the situation was duly flagged, with the conviction that the scenario of coercion and intimidation would have continued if not for the prompt intervention,” the statement continues.

The PSP also emphasizes that “domestic violence is a public crime” and “it is not necessary for the victim and suspect to be married, as it applies to dating situations.” They urge the “reporting of crimes to police or judicial authorities.”
