“At this moment, I believe it is important for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to conduct its investigations without any interference, reach its conclusions, and there’s not much more to add,” stated the liberal leader upon arrival in Paços de Ferreira, where she will participate in a campaign event for the municipal elections on October 12.
On Thursday, it was reported that prosecutors involved in the preventive investigation into Spinumviva deem it necessary to open a criminal inquiry into the Prime Minister, a decision pending from the Attorney General.
However, Mariana Leitão emphasized, “the official position of the Attorney General’s Office was that they were not yet proceeding with investigations.”
“It is important for the Attorney General’s Office and, therefore, the judiciary to carry out its work without interference,” warned Mariana Leitão, adding: “we will calmly wait for the Public Prosecutor’s Office to complete its task and then, according to its conclusions, we will take a position.”
Regarding the timing of this information release, Mariana Leitão reiterated the “official position of the Attorney General’s Office,” indicating there is no open inquiry or decision request.
She advised considering the “official position” and noted, “we have been informed that this advance towards an investigation is not confirmed at this stage.”
“Let us wait for the Attorney General’s Office to address the issue again. If it is deemed necessary,” she added.
