In a statement released on its website, the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Évora reported that the suspect has been charged with four counts of aggravated domestic violence and eight counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a dependent minor.
The victims include the ex-wife, aged 41, and their three daughters, currently aged 17, 11, and 10. The alleged crimes are reported to have occurred during the relationship with the partner, which began in 2005 and ended in March of this year.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant allegedly mistreated his partner through “various humiliations, physical and sexual assaults,” actions which were committed “in the presence of their minor daughters, even going as far as physically assaulting them.”
The man is further suspected of having “inflicted sexual assaults” on the eldest daughter when she was between the ages of 15 and 17.
The suspect was arrested following the issuance of out-of-court arrest warrants and, after being presented on Friday for the first judicial interrogation, has been placed in preventive detention.
The defendant is also prohibited from contacting, by any means, or through third parties, the victims.
The investigation continues under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office with the assistance of the Local Criminal Investigation Unit (ULIC) of Évora from the Judicial Police.
