A 26-year-old man was apprehended on the afternoon of November 24, suspected of committing four counts of aggravated theft in the Lisbon parish of Santa Maria Maior. In total, the individual accumulated 79,000 euros in stolen items, including jugs of olive oil.
“The suspect’s modus operandi involved scaling walls and entering residences through windows, breaking into homes at any time of day,” stated the Public Security Police (PSP) in a statement issued to news outlets on Thursday.
On numerous occasions, the young man was “caught by the residents themselves.” Authorities detailed that although the suspect managed to escape only once, his accomplices fled with the stolen goods.
“During the thefts, he seized various belongings of the victims, namely items of clothing, jewelry, jugs of olive oil, and electronic equipment, including mobile phones, tablets, and computers, with these items valued at approximately 79,000 euros,” the statement read.
The young man was remanded in custody after his initial judicial hearing.
