A 29-year-old man was arrested Monday during a patrol in Cova da Moura, Amadora, after attempting to conceal a weapon.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (Cometlis) stated in a press release Tuesday that the incident occurred when officers on patrol observed an individual hiding a firearm in his waistband.
“As soon as the individual became aware of the police presence, he fled,” the statement detailed, adding that the officers pursued him and noted he entered a residence to evade capture.
In an “attempt to intercept,” officers waited on-site until “the suspect emerged several minutes later.”
At that point, the suspect was “approached by officers, who informed him that they had seen him hiding the weapon, advising him of the illegality of his action and urging him to hand over the firearm.” Subsequently, the suspect “complied and re-entered the residence, returning with the weapon, which he handed to the police.”
The suspect has been notified to appear at the Amadora District Judicial Court for a first judicial interrogation, where appropriate coercive measures will be determined.
