Prime Minister Luís Montenegro took to social media to express his “deepest condolences to the family and friends” of former Health Minister Paulo Mendo, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
“Paulo Mendo dedicated much of his life to others. In political roles, but especially in the area of health, he was an example to all. In this moment of mourning, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” reads the post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Paulo Mendo passed away at the age of 92 at the Hospital de Santo António in Porto on Thursday.
“Professor Dr. Paulo Mendo passed away early this morning at the Hospital de Santo António,” announced José Barros, the clinical director of the Hospital de Santo António, in a written message sent to Lusa.

Physician Paulo Mendo, who served twice as Secretary of State and as Minister of Health from 1993 to 1995, died today at the age of 92 in Hospital de Santo António, Porto, according to a source from the hospital.
