The Judicial Police (PJ), in compliance with an arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, detained a 58-year-old man in Vila Nova de Famalicão on suspicion of attempted homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the PJ revealed that the incident “occurred on the night of July 6, on a public road near the detainee’s residence, in the context of an argument involving a family member, his son-in-law.”
“Following a previous disagreement between the man and his partner, she moved to her parents’ house, where he went to look for her. There, he confronted his father-in-law, and they began an argument. Armed with a firearm, the latter fired a shot in the direction of his son-in-law, hitting the vehicle in which he was traveling,” the statement reads.
As a result of the investigation carried out by the PJ’s Criminal Investigation Department in Braga, “the presumed perpetrator of the crime was identified and arrested, and the firearm believed to have been used in the incident was seized.”
The detainee will be presented to the competent judicial authorities at the Guimarães Court for his first judicial interrogation and the application of coercive measures.
