“Unfortunately, I must inform you that the concerts ‘3 palmas na mão’, scheduled for July 22 and 23 at Teatro Maria Matos [in Lisbon], and the concert at EXPOH in Oliveira do Hospital, scheduled for July 26, will not be able to take place,” reads a post shared at 18:00 today on Jorge Palma’s social media pages.
The musician reveals he underwent a “planned surgery, which went very well” at the end of June and already feels “strong” and “very eager to return to the stage.” However, “on medical advice,” Jorge Palma will need “some more recovery time before returning to the road”, which will happen in the second half of August.
In the post, Jorge Palma emphasizes “the fundamental importance of the National Health System,” thanking “everyone, without exception.”
Those who had tickets for the shows in Lisbon can request a refund “from Friday, at the point of sale where it was purchased.”
The musician mentions that, with the team, he is “working on a way to compensate those who have always shown interest in attending at Teatro Maria Matos.”
“In addition to ensuring a full refund, we request that you keep your ticket’s barcode number, as we also ensure that those who had a ticket for this canceled show will have special conditions at the next presentation of the project in Lisbon,” reads the post.
Regarding the show at EXPOH in Oliveira do Hospital, the musician promises “to do his best to return for the next edition.”
The show “3 palmas na mão” was initially scheduled to launch this April in Lisbon, with two concerts at Teatro Maria Matos, in Lisbon, but the two dates were postponed to July due to Jorge Palma’s health issues.
At 75, Jorge Palma is joined on stage by his sons and musicians Vicente Palma and Francisco Palma for a comprehensive lineup of originals and covers by the author of “Bairro do Amor.”
The show was presented in May in Loulé, Vale de Cambra, and Vila Nova de Gaia.
According to the musician’s management, in a statement released at the announcement of “3 palmas na mão,” “the most substantial part” of the show consists of his songs, from the first album to the most recent.
“But there will also be space for ‘covers’ of songs that mean a lot to the three of us (…) and perhaps there will still be solos by Vicente and Francisco, of their songs or others,” was anticipated.
The show’s title began as the name of Jorge Palma and his sons’ group on Whatsapp before turning into a song included in the musician’s latest album, “Vida,” eventually shaping into a concert.
