
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) released the weather forecast for the upcoming week, spanning July 7 to 13 in mainland Portugal. Following a period of above-average temperatures, the ongoing heatwave is expected to continue.
In the weekly bulletin, the IPMA forecasted the persistence of the heatwave until mid-next week in the interior region, where the maximum temperature will range between 30°C and 39°C throughout the week, potentially reaching 40°C in the Douro and Tejo valleys.
Along the coastal strip, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 25 and 32°C.
Regarding minimum temperatures, they will be above 15°C across the mainland, with tropical nights (values between 20 and 22°C) anticipated in the Northern Coast, Central and Southern borders, and the eastern Algarve during the first half of the week.
The IPMA also predicts the occurrence of morning fog from mid-week, particularly along the Western Coast.

Notably, Portugal has been experiencing a heatwave over the last few days. Last weekend, approximately one-third of mainland Portugal’s weather stations surpassed or equaled their previous historical maximum temperature records for June.
On Sunday, a new absolute extreme for June was recorded in Mora, Évora, where the weather station marked 46.6°C.
The 31 stations, out of a total of 90, that reached or exceeded maximums included Mora, Alvega with 46°C (previous high was 45.4°C), followed by Alvalade, Coruche, Tomar, Pegões, Avis, Mértola, Santarém, Amareleja, Reguengos, Beja, Proença a Nova, Zebreira, Alcoutim, Estremoz, Nelas, Chaves, Cabeceira de Bastos, Moimenta da Beira, Arouca, Cabril, Zambujeira, Vila Real, Viseu, Pampilhosa da Serra, Vinhais, Lamas de Mouro, Foia, and Montalegre, which reached 34.4°C (previous high was 34°C on June 20, 2003).
Portalegre station also surpassed its previous absolute minimum air temperature record for June on Sunday, reaching 31.5°C.
According to IPMA data, also on Sunday, around 82% of weather stations recorded maximum air temperatures above 35°C, and about 37% of stations reached maximum air temperatures above 40°C.
June 29 was the hottest day of the month, with an average maximum temperature of 38.5°C (an anomaly of +11.8°C compared to the monthly average) and an average minimum temperature of 28.7°C (an anomaly of +8.4°C compared to the monthly average).
