Here comes the heat, but not today: Rain and thunderstorms put 13 districts on yellow alert

Thirteen districts on the mainland are under a yellow alert today due to forecasts of showers, sometimes heavy, occasionally with hail, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) reports.

The districts of Évora, Beja, and Portalegre will be under yellow alert until 3 PM today, while Castelo Branco and Coimbra will remain so until 9 PM.

The districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, and Braga will be under alert until midnight on Wednesday.

The yellow alert, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather.

According to the IPMA, temperatures are expected to rise gradually from Thursday through the weekend by around 10 degrees Celsius, with some regions forecasting highs of 40 degrees.
