Portugal, along with the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, will switch to winter time at the end of this October, necessitating a one-hour backward adjustment of clocks.
In mainland Portugal and the Madeira Autonomous Region, clocks will be set back by one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, becoming 1 a.m.
In the Azores Autonomous Region, the change will occur at 1 a.m., reverting to midnight.
Daylight saving time will resume on March 29.
The current time change practice is governed by a directive (European Community law) from 2000, which mandates that clocks be set forward and backward by one hour on the last Sunday of March and October, respectively, marking the beginning and end of daylight saving time.
