Just over a month after the official start of summer, there is still plenty of sunshine, warm weather, and vacation time to enjoy, both abroad and at home.
An analysis conducted by Jetcost, shared on Thursday with Notícias ao Minuto, highlights the destinations most searched by Portuguese tourists for August on the company’s website.
Data analyzed by experts indicates a preference for domestic tourism among the Portuguese, with Lisbon emerging as the most sought-after destination for the upcoming month.
The list provided to Notícias ao Minuto also reveals that most Portuguese prefer to stay relatively close by. Palma de Mallorca in Spain ranks second, while the third-place preference is a return to Portugal with a direct ‘flight’ to Porto.
Before venturing to other European countries, the Portuguese show a preference for the islands, with Madeira taking fourth place and São Miguel in the Azores ranking fifth.
From the mid-Atlantic, local travelers head to nearby European cities, with Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Ibiza, and Menorca filling out the remainder of the top ten in that order.
However, Portuguese travelers are also opting for more distant destinations, using their passports to explore beyond the nearby areas. After the ten ‘close-to-home’ picks, they choose Africa, specifically Cape Verde. Additionally, Brazil is a favored destination, with Rio de Janeiro Ranking 24th and earning interest as a desired location.
