Higher Education: Placed students can enroll today (until the 28th)

Students who participated in the first phase of the national higher education access competition have received an email containing information on their allocated college and course and can now proceed with registration.

Students entering their first year of higher education can still apply for the second phase, which also starts today.

Besides the 11,513 vacancies remaining from the first phase, additional spots will be available in the second phase, left vacant by students who did not complete their registration and enrollment.

These new vacancies, dependent on students relinquishing their spots, will be announced on September 2nd on the website of the Directorate-General for Higher Education. At that time, it will also be possible to alter an existing application.

Who can apply for the second phase?

Applications for the second phase end on September 3rd, with results to be announced on September 14th.

Those who were not placed and those who wish to change courses despite having a spot can apply for the second phase. However, “if these students secure a spot in the second phase, their placement and registration from the first phase will be nullified,” the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation clarifies.

Candidates placed in the first phase who did not complete their enrollment and registration can reapply in the second phase according to the rules.

More than 43,000 students have been placed in universities and polytechnics, a figure representing a 12.1% decrease compared to the previous year.

This year, there were nine thousand fewer applicants for higher education, totaling less than 50,000, confirming predictions of fewer students entering higher education.

How many vacancies remain for the second phase?

This year, there were 626 more vacancies and nine thousand fewer applicants. As a result, 11,513 vacancies remain, the highest number in the past decade.

The data also show a 20.3% increase in students placed in undergraduate programs in Basic Education, with 1,199 new students filling all available spots in the first phase.

“In the past three years, the number of placements in undergraduate programs in Basic Education has increased by 64.9%, demonstrating the growing interest of students in these courses,” states the MECI in a press release sent to newsrooms.
